Convergence Initiative towards Sustainable Rural Development of the Departments
of Agriculture, Agrarian Reform, and Environment and Natural Resources was formalized
and implemented on January 26, 1999 through the Joint Memorandum Circular No.
1 - Series of 1999.
The current direction of the National Convergence Initiative
(NCI) in meeting sustainable rural development is the “Development of Local
Convergence Agro-enterprise Clusters across ecosystems from ridge-to-reef driven
by a value chain approach led by LGUs, fuelled by private sector investments,
and supported by DA-DAR-DENR Convergence Initiative for sustainable rural development.”
It
is a good governance platform of the rural development agencies of the Philippine
government, providing integrated delivery of services and programs to the rural
farming, fishing and upland communities of our country.
